# Introduction

> What is oncost and who is it for

# Welcome to oncost

oncost gives engineering and finance teams a single view of their cloud and SaaS spend. Connect your providers, see what changed, get alerted when something looks off, and investigate in two clicks.

## Why oncost?

Most cost tools are built for large enterprises with dedicated FinOps teams. oncost is built for startups and scale-ups where the person watching costs is also shipping code.

* **Multi-provider** -- AWS, GCP, Anthropic, OpenAI, and GitHub in one place
* **Change-focused** -- shows you what moved, not what stayed the same
* **Proactive** -- anomaly detection and budget alerts push to Slack before surprises land
* **Fast setup** -- connect a provider in under 5 minutes, no agents to install

## How it works

1. **Connect** your cloud and SaaS providers (AWS IAM role, GCP service account, API keys)
2. **Collect** -- oncost pulls billing data on a schedule, normalizes it, and stores it in your data lake
3. **See** -- the Home feed shows what needs attention: anomalies, budget warnings, cost changes
4. **Investigate** -- drill into the Cost Explorer by service, region, account, or tag
5. **Act** -- set budgets, configure Slack alerts, share saved views with your team
