Notifications

oncost sends alerts to Slack so your team stays informed without checking the dashboard.

Setting up Slack

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications
  2. Click Add Destination
  3. Select Slack and authorize oncost to post to your workspace
  4. Choose a channel (e.g., #cost-alerts)
  5. Click Save

Alert types

Real-time alerts

Sent immediately when triggered:
  • Anomaly detected — unusual spending pattern found
  • Budget warning — budget approaching or exceeding limit
  • Connection error — a provider connection has failed

Weekly digest

A rich summary delivered to Slack on a schedule:
  • Total spend this week vs. last week (% change)
  • Top 3 cost movers (up and down)
  • Budget status summary
  • Unresolved anomaly count
  • Deep link to the oncost dashboard
Configure the digest per destination:
  1. Toggle Enable weekly digest on the destination card
  2. Set delivery day and time (default: Monday 9am)

Managing destinations

Each destination can be configured independently:
  • Enable/disable real-time alerts
  • Enable/disable weekly digest
  • Set digest delivery schedule
  • Delete the destination

Digest preview

The notification settings page shows a preview of what the Slack message will look like, so you know exactly what your team will see.
